433 Porcupine Squadron (Qui S'y Frotte S'y Pique) RAF Skipton-on-Swale, Halifax III aircraft HX 269 BM-J was shot down during a night operation against Schweinfurt, Germany.

P/O GF Fielding (RCAF) (rank of FS) was taken Prisoner of War. He escaped a German POW column with FS DC Fergusson April 7, 1945 and died after he was released and returned to Canada

P/O Fielding had also survived the crash of 24 Operational Training Unit Whitley V aircraft AD 697 TY-J, shot down by allied anti-aircraft fire over London, England while on a training flight, 1943-09-21

Target:

24 Operational Training Unit RAF Honeybourne, Whitley V aircraft AD 697 TY-J was on a BULLSEYE sortie (navigational exercise which simulated an operational sortie) which was to target London, England. Over the city they discovered they were in the midst of a real air raid, and they had an engine knocked out by allied anti-aircraft fire. Unable to maintain height, and unable to get airfields below to turn on their lights due to the raid, they spotted a light below which was at a small airfield and crash-landed on the adjacent golf course
