Ziegler emigrated to Canada, pre-war and was living in Ottawa when he enlisted in the CEF in 1915. He transferred to the RFC on 1917-11-05 and after flight training, he was posted to 4 Sqn. RFC, in France on 1918-01-10. On 1918-03-24 he was slightly injured in RE-8 B-823; when he was forced to land due to enemy fire while on an artillery observation patrol. His observer/gunner, Lt Alan Wingate Miller (British) was slightly injured. Ziegler survived the war, but returned to England, rather than coming back to Canada.
