Pither began his military career as a private in the Royal Army Service Corps. Transferring to the RFC on 1915-08-15 raised him to a 2nd-Lieut. He made Captain and Flight Commander before being killed in a flying accident at 58 Training Squadron, in Egypt. The crash happened 1918-06-08, he died of his injuries on June 11.
