1917-10-11: Cunningham was wounded in SE5a, A-4861; when he was shot through the spine by an enemy aircraft and his engine also destroyed. He glided down and made a forced landing at Goute-de-Nieppe, Belgium. Local farmers rescued him from his aircraft and took him to No.2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station where he died on 1918-10-19.
