Minor damage at Penhold aerodrome at 16:10 on 14 April 1943, when student
pilot taxied this aircraft into stationary Oxford AT576, after his first solo
flight on type. Category A damage at
Penhold on 24 May 1943. Pilot was
taxiing in from night flying, having landed at 20:30, when starboard engine
nacelle and wing caught fire. Crew
exited aircraft, fire trucks responded, but aircraft was destroyed by fire
and fuel tank explosions.
Investigation showed exhaust flames had ignited starboard wing, near
fuel tanks. This was the tenth such
fire reported since January 1943, with all the others being quickly extinguished. This investigation led to a mandatory
modification of the RCAF Oxford fleet.

on 20 November 1942. Parachute flared
dropped, probably as a result of passing over rough ground at high speed,
snagged flight controls and ignited during take off for mutual cross country
night flight. Student pilots landed
straight ahead, aircraft damaged severely.
This accident led to modifications to the flare doors on Oxford
aircraft. Scrapped by No. 10 Repair

AS774 following a brake failure.
Damaged in a forced landing at 14:00 on 18 May 1943, after fuel
exhaustion. Student pilot had broken
off from formation flying when he detected low fuel state, and then made a go
around at the main aerodrome to avoid other traffic. Landed gear up 1/2 mile west of main
aerodrome after both engines quit, killing a cow in the process. Investigation faulted School refueling
procedures, and faulted student pilot for passing up better possible landing
sites while trying to make main aerodrome.
To Aircraft Repair for crash repairs, 26 May to 10 August 1943. Back to No. 4 Training Command when
completed. Still with No. 36 Service
Flying Training School when it suffered a Category A crash on 20 July
1944. Collided with Oxford AT589
during formation flying training. No
injuries in either aircraft. Student
pilot bailed out of this aircraft, instructor then returned to base. To No. 10 Repair Depot on 21 July 1944 for
scrapping. |

winter conversion kit greatly reduced single engine performance. No serious injuries to three on board. To No. 6 Repair Depot at Trenton on 8 June
