Category C damage on 8 April 1941, while with No. 6 Service
Flying Training School (SFTS) at Dunville, Ontario. Converted to Mk. IIA armament trainer on 29
August 1950. Temporary loan to RCN 29
August 1950, carried RCAF serial number plus penant number. Operated by No. 1 Training Air Group (1
TAG) at the Naval Air Station, HMCS Shearwater. Changed to indefinite loan to
the RCN on 18 December 1953.
Transferred from Shearwater to VC 924, the naval air reserve squadron
that formed in Calgary on 1 June 1954.
It is unclear what happened to 2777 after it was struck off in
1960. However, it was eventually
rescued from long term storage in a deteriorated condition and with parts
from other Harvards was refurbished as a VC 924 squadron Harvard with
"930 - NAVY" markings. For
many years was a "Gate Guardian" at the entrance to
Shearwater. The aircraft again deteriorated
out of doors in the maritime climate and in 2003 was brought indoors and
given a new yellow paint job with "930 - NAVY" markings for display
inside the Shearwater Aviation Museum where it stands today. |
